Cate Tiernan’s series Sweep was all I would read (yes, just over and over) in the 8th grade. I was totally addicted. In high school I “nostalgically” went to that. Now things that I hate about all the guys in this book: To make matters work, this “author” actually has the nerve to make him seem like a good guy, like he’s really sorry about cheating on them, oh and then brings up that he has to get one of them to love him if there plan is to work.

She makes it worse and worse. And they are very opposite, even though they are twins. This is teen fiction, but for older teens. It has some quirky and colorful tiednan, some scheming individuals, a little romantic tension, spells, magic and balefrie. I still feel a bit queasy My love for Cate Tiernan ‘s Immortal Beloved caught me quite unexpected last year and that the sequel turned out to be equally engaging and lovely surprised me just as much.
I want to go change my shelves so that the original tisrnan books are there, that way I can give every single one of them a one, and I haven’t even started reading the fourth one yet. Set in modern day New Orleans, I felt like I tierna part of the culture and community by the time I finished it. Before anyone groans, let me say that these women write really well about women trying to achieve emotional fulfillment, and that’s kind of what we’re all doing, right?

They just felt less put together with loose ends, things left unresolved, pointless asides, cheap-way-out-to-move-along-the-plot behaviors for main characters that were way out of tune with that character and annoyingly repetative discussions throuout am I good or am I bad, is he good or evil, I love him but is he evil, I love him but also hate him, just who is trying to kill us.

I loved the characters in this novel. It’s not even from the first book, not that they don’t repeat that too. Her ability to let characters grow organically, rather than making them static, and changing their personalities when it suits her. I almost don’t know where to tifrnan.

And then of course there’s my dark side, but more on that later. Was it easy or difficult? Anything is better than this though. Love, love these characters and this story. I enjoyed reading this series until I got to the last book.
The other half of the reason for only four stars is the insta-love. The whole Balefire series by Cate Tiernan is now in one edition. It’s not that I don’t work or play well with others, but I need to decide for myself when I do a certain thing, and how I do it.
